Una mica de llana Lion Brand calenteta del forn?
El cap de setmana passat vaig haver d’anar a Los Angeles al Craft and Hobby Association Show per feina. És com el Creativa de Barcelona, on les marques ensenyen les seves ultimes innovacions en materials, màquines, etc. Aquí el hobby més popular sembla ser l'”scrapbooking” que ve a ser fer àlbums de fotos però decorant-los a mà amb tot tipus d’enganxines, cintes, botons, etc. hi ha coses espectaculars.
Així que un cop vaig haver acabat amb les fotos, les targetes i els àlbums em vaig dirigir cap a la zona del tèxtil i les llanes i la veritat es que va ser bastant decepcionant. Honestament, crec que son les marques independents, els dissenyadors i els teixicòmans com nosaltres els que fem les coses més interessants ara mateix. L’única excepció va ser Lion Brand Yarn. Rebo la seva newsletter i hi ha algun patró que està bé de tant en tant, però sempre en la línia tradicional. Però a l’arribar al seu stand em vaig quedar amb la boca oberta. Havien creat una col.lecció de decoració teixida ES-PEC-TA-CU-LAR.
Em vaig posar a fer fotos com una desesperada (que per cert em van quedar fatal, mil perdons) i se’m va apropar una senyora súper-elegant i encantadora que va resultar ser la directora creativa, la Karen Tanaka. Em va explicar que Lion Brand Yarn era coneguda per fer llanes de qualitat a un preu assequible, pero que amb aquesta nova temporada havien donat un gir a la col.lecció i que l’havien pensat de manera que puguessis barrejar dos o més tipu de llana i el resultat sempre fos sorprenent i modern. Mireu la foto de més avall per entendre la varietat de fils per barrejar.
El que em va encantar:
1. La barreja de colors i textures molt diferents en una mateixa peca, com fils metalics amb llanes gruixudes de colors lila, magenta i verd tot fent una – mena de granny squares de jacquard/fair isle ultra-moderns per a cobrir un sofa
2. Uns puffs de ganxet fets amb llana molt gruixuda fets amb un canale agafant el punt per darrera. El mes interessant era que els havien teixit fent un rectangle unit per les puntes per fer un tub i tancant-lo amb un cordo a les dues puntes, ni minvats ni res! (d’aquest no tinc cap foto bona, pero intentare escriure un patro quan tingui una mica de temps)
3. El groc mostassa, color que jo mai faria servir, barrejat amb liles, taronja, verds… el meu proper projecte promet…

Last weekend I drove up to LA to attend the Craft and Hobby Association Winter Show. It as a professional trip but I was really looking forward to it. After making the rounds of all the paper and scrapbooking booths, I walked straight to the area for textile crafting. And honestly, it was pretty disappoinitng, I believe that right now it is the indie brands, designers and yarn/fabricholics like us that create the vibe in this industry, not the large, established brands. The exception was Lion Brand Yarn. I get their newsletter and they have some interesting patterns from time to time, but always on the traditional side. But when I got to their booth, my jaw dropped. They had used their collection of yarns to create knitted and crocheted home decor and the result was STUNNING!
I started taking pictures like crazy (I know they came out horrible, sorry…) and I was approached by this very elegant lady who turned out to be LBY creative’s director, Karen Tanaka. She told me that the brand was well known for good quality, affordable yarns, but that in this year’s collection, they had re-thought colors and textures so that you could combine any yarn and always get a hip, contemporary result. Have a look higher up to understand the potential variations.
What I loved:
1. The mix of colors and textures in one item, like chunky yarns with metallic thread, in purple, magenta and greens, creating a sort of mosaic constrauction to cover a sofa
2. Pouffs covered in a very simple ribbing crocheted from the back loop only. The interesting thing was the simplicity of the construction: apparently, they were a rectangle joined by the short edges to create a tube and closing the two openings with a drawstring, no decreases. I will try to make one myself and publish a pattern when I have some time
3. Yellow mustard, a color I would have never used, combined with orange, green, purple… the color palette of my new project looks very promising…
Now it’s time that LBY gives its website a facelift, bringing some of this fresh and adventurous spirit to its look and feel and projects

Buff, el meu proper projecte…. estic amb les llanes meravelloses de la Marga, que de tan xules que son no hi ha projecte que estigui a l’alcada. Paralisi creativa total!

Jo també rebo la newsletter de Lionbrand, de fet va ser una de les primeres webs que vaig descobrir quan vaig començar a fer mitja, però la veritat és que no li faig gaire cas, a mi també em semblen clàssics els patrons i les llanes no les puc comprar, així que… no obstant, aquestes fotos demostren que s’ho prenen seriosament, quina passada! M’encanta l’homenet aquell.
